Linden Spinney is situated on the outskirts of the ancient stannary town of Chagford, a half mile, easy walk from the centre.

On the edge of  north-east Dartmoor, the town boasts some of the best and widest range of shops in the county. And there are no yellow lines in the town! Although the population of Chagford is just around 1500 people, almost every need can be met within the town.

There is a pharmacy, newsagents, off-licence, grocery shop, delicatessen, dairy; a greengrocers, a bakery, art galleries, a post office, a florist,  antique shops, a bookshop, a veterinary surgery, two banks and two of the best ironmongery shops (selling much more than ironmongery!) that you will find anywhere.  The town has a number of pubs, all providing excellent bar or restaurant meals at very reasonable prices. There are also cafes and restaurants which cater for a wide variety of tastes and purses.
Chagford has a thirteenth century Anglican church which holds regular services; a twentieth century Roman Catholic church; and a Gospel Chapel. There is a strong sense of community in Chagford and each week there is an event of one kind or another taking place in one of the two halls. On Friday mornings there is a Flea Market at the Jubilee Hall to which people flock to scoop up a huge variety of bargains on sale there: anything from plants to pottery, books to baguettes, eggs to antiques.

Chagford also boasts two tennis courts, and one of the most beautiful children's playing field for miles and miles. Several Golf course and ranges are a short drive away. There are a number of riding stables nearby where hacking, trekking or tuition can be easily arranged. In summer the town's outdoor swimming pool, beautifully situated on the banks of the Teign, is open and visitors are welcome to use it.
There are miles of  walks along the banks of the River Teign, which is just half a mile from our gate. Fishing licences, on a daily or weekly basis are easily available for the river or the nearby well-stocked reservoirs, at a shop in Chagford. There are more miles of gentle, or more adventurous, walking on the footpaths which wind their way around the parish. For those who enjoy walking the whole of Dartmoor is within easy reach; in fact one can begin a moorland walk from the gate of Linden Spinney and a whole day can be enjoyed without a car!
